Wouldn’t a shaft with more flex produce longer yards on a golf ball.?
Question by e_castro77: Wouldn’t a shaft with more flex produce longer yards on a golf ball.?
I’m 33 years old and I’m a 36.4 handicap with a 90-95mph swing speed, I recently had my self fitted for clubs and was suggested a “Stiff” shaft, but wouldn’t a shaft with a “Flex” shaft produce greater yardage vs. a “Stiff” shaft?
Best answer:
Answer by betotron
distance is wrist speed at contact
shaft has nothing to do with how far

with that handi-capp..you need to concentrate on ball striking.
I think you mean “R” flex. It’s all relative when it comes to flex. There’s the bare-bones swingspeed equals flex answer, but there’s other parameters.
1. Your backswing may dictate flex. If you don’t have a full backswing or a fast tempo, going with a stiffer shaft might help you load it better, producing better results. If you have accuracy issues, a stiffer flex might also tighten up your dispertion pattern.
2. There is no standard, in regards to flex, throughout the manufacturers. One company’s “S” might be another’s “R”. Weight of the shaft also plays a role- a light “S” could play roughly the same as a heavier “R”. You have to look big-picture, so to speak. Let’s say you need a light shaft, yet help with correcting the lefts. Company A’s “S” is lighter than Company B’s “R”, but it has a lower torque rating, Well, that’s your perfect solution- a light shaft that fights the rights.
To make a short story long, forget about what letter’s on the shaft. If the fitter recommends something, chances are VERY good that s/he knows that particular shaft will optimize your set.
yes but the stiffer the shaft the more forgiving it is and you really wouldn’t like to play with a shaft that isn’t stiff enough for you
Yes it would but you run into the issue of control. And one of the secrets to golf is controlled distance. But if you want distance then get a more flexable shaft it will go a little farther.
