Question by keysound: Which is better to buy? Used TAYLORMADE bubble-shaft golf clubs (year 1999 ) or 2006 unbranded model?
Which is better to buy? Used TAYLORMADE bubble-shaft graphite irons golf club set cavity type (year 1999 model ) or a brand new complete golf club set model 2006 from non-famous brands like Slazenger (costs around $ 250 here in Asia)?

My wife and I are just newbies in Golf (beginners) so it will be our first golf clubs. My friend is selling me his used golf-clubs (TAYLORMADE iron set), and used McGregor woods (#3, #5) and Driver for $ 150. No putter included.

Is the technology jump from 1999 to the present (2006) significant in terms of golf clubs? Are we better off getting the older 1999 TAYLORMADE golf clubs? The clubs seem to be in good shape except for the handle/grips which are kinda faded.

I am inclinced towards the branded Taylormade but my wife likes the SHINY, scratchess brand new ones. :) Obviously, we don’t intend to spend a lot since we are not yet sure how seriously we will play this game.

Thanks.
Take note. 2006 brand new TAYLORMADE is NOT an option! TOO EXPENSIVE.

2006 Brand new clubs we are considering are non-famous brands like Slazenger which sells a complete set for $ 250.

I you are only starting out now I would suggest going for the cheaper clubs. However, eventhough the Taylormade may be older they are still of high quality. So it really depends on what your needs are.

Newbies do not need the latest and greatest technology. Learn to swing the club and the etiquette of the game before worry about technology. Cast clubs before forged for sure. Brand not important. Used Wilson fat shaft iron offer great value and easy playability with a technology that allows you o hit the ball farther with great forgiveness. Learn the game first.

First off the new clubs will look like the TaylorMades in about six rounds, also you can have the clubs re-done for a small price and they will look like new, grips can be put on in less than an hour at your local pro-shop or golf store, third, you are new so what you hit right now is the last thing to worry about. You have many other thought challenges ahead of you, so save the brain power for a 60 foot putt for your first birdy. Another thing is quality, take the Made’s because they will last longer and MORE importantly your re-sell value will be greater if you decide golf is not a sport you wish to challenge. SOOOO, my advise is go with the Taylor Mades and we will see you on the course.

If the new clubs are made of stainless steel then they are the same material as the Taylormades but probably more forgiving. As a beginner you should get the most forgiving clubs you can get for the cheapest price. Once you learn how to play then you should invest in some name brand clubs.

7 year old set of golf clubs for $ 150 dollars!!! Go For It!! If you are getting the entire set of irons for $ 150 and he is also throwing in a set of woods ya cant beat that deal anywhere!! This set is GREAT for a beginner, I mean if ya go to your local golf shop/sporting goods store you will pay a little more than that for a no named brand that has little to NO R&D(research &development) behind them.. At least with the Taylormade you have years and years of R&D to back up there design.. Also since you are a beginner starting with a tried and true club design will help… Pretty scratchless clubs- Hello you are beginners-they will be scratched and scuffed after the first week of practice.. BUY THE TAYLORMADES HIT THE RANGE AND WELCOME TO THE GAME OF GOLF!!!!
