Don’t play with him unless he follows the rules of golf,or,play him for money with you keeping score.

If he signs for an incorrect score, he’s DQ’d. I’m surprised if he’s hitting multiple shots at each venture that his score is only 12 strokes higher, considering the penalties for playing the wrong ball (which, if he did this EVERY shot and he’s a “90′s” shooter, could put him close to the 120′s).

I agree- either quit keeping score, or quit golfing with him. Golf is a window to a person’s soul- if he lies and cheats on the course, he’s gonna lie and cheat in the “real world”.

There is no rule against this it is simply called a mulligan. a Mulligan is when somebody hits twice and gets the same score. There is no exact rule for choosing which ball you want to hit unless it is modified for more speed/distance/performance. If he is cheating on his putting, count his actual score and fill out the card with it instead. He will ask why you did not add the score he told you tell him that the score you added is the right score.

Your buddy is not playing right if he is to keep score. He is only fooling himself with that kind of score keeping. I know the game is just for fun for most of us. But is no fun playing with people like that.

If you hit a second shot from the tee without declaring that you are playing a provisional, the second ball becomes your ball in play under stroke and distance. Rule 27-2.

When he hits his second ball from the tee, he is lying three. If he hits another one, he will be lying five.

In all cases, if he plays a ball other than his last one, he will be playing a wrong ball. He gets a two stroke penalty for that, and must correct the error. Otherwise he will be disqualified. Rule 15-3.

The guy who said there’s no rule against mulligans is 100% wrong. I wish I could have given him two thumbs down for that answer.

But, doesn’t the course have a ranger? I don’t see how he can do this without slowing up everybody on the course.

I would definitely stop playing with the guy. Tell him you’ll play with him again when he learns to play golf, and not whatever game he decides to invent.
