golf clubs…are the new square drivers any good? Why?
Question by Brian L: golf clubs…are the new square drivers any good? Why?
several new square headed drivers out there? do they hit the ball straighter, and if so, why. If it has to do with weight balancing on the extremities of the head, why wouldn’t lead tape on a current driver provide similar stabilization?

Sounds like you already know the answer to your question, except the part about lead tape. Well, lead tape will help, but won’t be as exacting as what the clubhead developers are able to do in the design lab, with precision measurements, etc.

Just another sales gimmick. Same technology, different look.
the new square head drivers put weight further back than conventional head drivers making them more stable (less twisting) at impact…putting lead tape would work to some degree but would only get the center of mass and gravity back so far in your driver head because of its shape…since the bounce (cor) and size (460cc) of the driver face must meet a certain requirement there have been imaginative weight movements in driver heads using different materials to create more stability at impact…it is science, and does work…
I truly think they are just another gimmick , I have tried all the new square drivers out to date and to me they are nothing special , and a few of them are annoyingly loud , I will stick to my Titleist 400CC 905T until I find something better , and I have not found it yet .
4 handicap.
