Question by Eric B: Golf Ball Technology in Baseball?
Could this be the future of the Sport of Baseball? Is it time for Baseball to advance with the times? As a fan, I think so.

Today there was Yahoo! Sports news about the league (MLB) all in a huff over rumors from fans (?) and players (?) that the baseball is quote ”juiced”

The following is just a partial quote from author Jeff Passan~Yahoo! Sports,

STARTQUOTE: “..the magical baseball that Major League Baseball orders wound extra-tight to promote more home runs – so we have to wait for a conspiracy theorist to emerge from the woods every few years and claim it’s back. After the home run frenzy opening weekend left baseball looking for answers – because the truth, small-sample-size fluctuation, doesn’t exactly satisfy most appetites – there came our savior, an unnamed bullpen catcher, who told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Dave O’Brien that balls feel harder this year and, he believes, that’s not an accident.” ENDQUOTE.

As you can see the sport itself has become hyper-hypochondriatic about anything remotely non-traditional.

I will list my complaints:
A) I SAY ENOUGH ALREADY! STOP WITH THE PARANOIA AND STEROIDS ASIDE*, LET THE SPORT ADVANCE WITH THE TECHNOLOGY! GONE ARE THE ERAS OF BABE AND MICKEY, THIS IS 2011! *As for steroids, keep the athletes accountable with the current anti-drug testing rules.

B) I SAY LET THE GAME HAVE THE SAME TECHNOLOGY THAT FOOTBALL, SOCCER, HOCKEY, AND GOLF PLAYERS GET TO ENJOY ON THE COURSES, COURTS, FIELDS, AND RINKS! THOSE AFOREMENTIONED GET TO ENJOY THE BENEFITS CUTTING EDGE ADVANCEMENTS BRING TO THEIR RESPECTIVE SPORTS EQUIPMENT!

C) The cutting-edge technology put into a golf ball is so advanced, it would literally make the official, game-ball (ie: baseball) more exciting with a baseball-sized golf ball, MINUS the dimples of course! Trust me, if they can make a golf ball so high-tech, they can design a baseball without the dimples!

D) SAVE the trees! Let hitters enjoy carbon fibre bats! Bring on the big guns with titanium-alloy bats if the league could afford it! Imagine the joy of swinging a bat that can be so light, yet designed with the weight quote BUILT INTO IT, right down to the specific milligram as per Pujol’s desire of a certain weight in his bat!

E) This is America’s Past Time, so it is NOT like the league could not enjoy the best American Sporting Technology has to offer baseball!

F) You get to see Football athletes enjoy the latest and greatest in sporting apparel. Baseball’s best get what? >> Cotton-Polyester Blends! I SAY BRING IN ‘UNDER-ARMOUR’!

BASEBALL NEEDS AN EQUIPMENT FACELIFT! THE CURRENT EQUIPMENT THAT BASEBALL ENJOYS IS SO-1940s.

JUST A PARTIAL LIST OF COMPANIES THAT COULD ADD SHEER TONNAGE OF HIGH-TECH EQUIPMENT ADVANCEMENTS, not to mention the marketing dollars the MLB would offer them! :
Titleist, Taylor Made, Callaway, Srixon, Cleveland, Under Armour, RBK, Nike, Adidas, etcetera, etc.!
ENOUGH OF THE GRIPES OF THE ASININE ”TRADITIONAL SOUND” A WOODEN BAT MAKES VS. AN ALUMINUM.
IMAGINE CARBON-FIBRE gloves for ALL positions! Save a cow! We all KNOW that the technology exists to build a synthetic glove that withstands the heat and sweat, but weighs a FRACTION of your traditional cowhide glove!

LASTLY:
>>>>> IF YOU MAKE IT, THEY WILL USE IT!!!! <<<<<<<<

Carbon Fiber bats and composite balls = dead players and fans in the first 10 rows.

Technology is not the answer…it simply creates more questions.

Look at motorsports…when you unleash technology, you must then reign it in for safety’s sake. Then it all becomes about control and limitations….What fun is that?

And as for football, understand that the lighter-weight protection has contributed to the vicious hits and helmet spearing that are now all too common.
