Question by Chewberts: Favorite polarized sunglasses for fishermen?
Just lost my beloved pair of Ray Ban(brown fade lenses) that i really enjoyed. Before i go out and get another pair just wanted to see what everyone’s opinions were.

Not going with Oakley, just too bulky for my face. I plan on going to a Sunglass Hut to try some on but its not like i can demo them on the water or golf course. I’m looking for some input as to which company’s technology cuts through the glare off the water the best, which color lenses are preferred for fishing.

Thanks for the input.
for specifics, i am a flats fisherman ….period….i spend every available hour i can fishing in the gas flats and 3 island in laguna madre, south padre island, TEXAS. when i can’t make it down there i take my kayak to port aransas/corpus christi and traverse the mangro mazes. I don’t go off-shore, i really prefer to spot/sight and stalk the fish in the shallows. I’ll take the reds and trout, anything else is all you:)

Try on some Maui Jims, they work great.

Maui Jim – I tried them this year and WOW !!!
Puts all others to shame and I’ve had Ray Bans and others. IMO they are superior for cutting glare and giving a true non-distorted underwater image as well as being comparatively priced – I prefer amber lenses for fly fishing.

Go on line to 3M and find their protective lenses then add polarized to your search and you will love them and have your offices order you 2 pairs through your packaging company.
Fact is even 3M’s Scientific Angler division doesn’t have them yet ><>
I got two sampled to me by our 3M rep and keep one in the tackle box and one in the car. Personaly I like the grey lenses and not the mirror type. I like light weight and I like shatter proof. Have you ever set the hook and had the leadhead come flying out of the water and the fish with the swimbait still in its mouth and then at the last second you turned in time for the lead head to almost hit you in the head, you’ll know why shatterproof is important.

Go with what you like best but here are some good suggestions.

Costa Del Mar- They are popular for a reason, I own a pair and love them.

Hobie- I bought a pair at Sports Authority and they are my favorite. I sightfish alot so I got them w/ Amber lenses and they are awesome

Smith optics- Great products for fisherman, I know several guys that own them and love them

Guideline- Again they make great glasses tailored to fishermen

For shallow water flats you will like Amber or vermillon lenses. They create the most contrast for sightfishing. I also sightfish the flats.

There are lots of Oakley models out there — not all are bulky. You might look into their square wire fishing models that get good reviews.

I have been a Boat Capt. and a Mate on a Sport fishing Boat for 15yrs and have worn almost every Polarized glasses on the market. In my opinion? there are 3 companies that work and keep your eyes safe. 1st you must buy glasses with glass lenses, not plastic? REVO are very good But are very expensive. My 2 choices that you cannot go wrong are Costa Del Mar, or Maui Jim’s. They both have offshore colored lenses, or if you fish back country or Inshore fishing(flats). They both have the correct color lens you will need at a moderate price. Remember, you only get 1 pair of eyes, so the quality of glasses you buy, is you get what you pay for. Hope I helped? Goodluck!
