And you hook the driver right? Sounds like you have a grip that is too strong; you are de-lofting the 7 iron and the loft on the 4 gets too low you cannot benefit from it; review your grip and make sure you feel braced against the left side through impact with your head back of the ball but top of sternum in front like the “golf pro lesson take better divots” video; the one leg drill is great for feeling the right brace as well; Shawn

    hi shawn

great video. i just have a quick question. i seem to hit my 7 iron the same distance as my 4 iron. any advice?
    thanks

Thanks for the great comment! You can see my “golf pro lesson slow motion” and “golf pro lesson compress through the ball” videos for more on this subject!

  4. Zirezu says:

A truly brilliant video with a lot of inspirational techniques. I had no idea the divot was supposed to be in-front of your ball. One would assume the perfect shot would be the ball at the lowest point of your swing. Thank you ever so much!

  5. 1tontomato says:

You make it look so simple and you explain it so well that it’s sad most people cannot get the concept right. Great drill and analogies as always, and funny too.

    Another great video, Shawn!!

Hey Shawn great videos have learned alot im going to get your dvds. Question I have recorded my swing and I release early . The hit through the ball helps but I think part of my problem is I have tendonitis (tennis elbow) in my right (front) elbow. My left stronger arm takes over and I release early causing pulls and pull hooks. The tennis elbow isnt really bad its just annoying as hell and my game has suffered. Any suggestions.

I just watched this video and did some practice swings and I can just feel the improvement. Now I can’t wait till I hit the range tomorrow to try this tip out. I’ll report back my success.

  9. madcityscott says:

This tip has changed my swing. I was guilty of hitting the ball instead of swing through it, and now my swing is much more pure and fluid. My ball striking is leaps and bounds better. Thanks, Shawn! I’m definitely going to order your DVD. Wish I could take lessons in person.

God this is soooo helpful man thank you.Every one always says I have really good practice swing and bad swing as soon as I put the ball in front of me.This helped alot Thank you again

  11. rahickey002 says:

Shawn ,I use the driver set up as presented in your driver tip video. Ball teed off left heel or toe ,and driver aligned on center ,shoulders, hips and feet aligned with target. Because the focas is on a point 4 to 6 inches behind the ball where the swing of the driver is to bottom out, you are no longer hitting the ball ,but swinging thru the ball to the target. its the best best feeling shot in my bag ,and I strive to achieve that same feeling in all my shots.Thank you for all that you do.

This video really opened my eyes to what I have been doing wrong the last 5 years. Just wished I had seen it sooner, when I just started playing. Changing will be hard. This video, distance to ball, and one leg drill really helped my swing. Thank you!

  13. clemshaw says:

Thanks for the comment and looking forward to it!

Have a look at my “golf pro lesson bridging flat wrist with hinged wrists” video; it is right along the lines of what you are talking about; Shawn

  15. cockywatchman1976 says:

    Shawn,
Thanks for this. im going to make it my swing thought for the week. Its so true. My practice swing is top 50 in the world. My shot swing isn’t top 50 in my club! Hitting the ball causes all sorts of problems and swing break downs-when I concentrate on that smooth ‘through the ball SWING-not hit’ well thats when I hit my best shots-sorry, SWING my best shots!
    Cheers PAL

PS Enjoying your DVD-I will send you that review of yours and Leadbetter’s soon!

  16. dallenharris says:

You are the man, you have cut at least 10 strokes from my game and getting better and better if I just can remember to swing through the ball not at it!

  17. nikoniko84 says:

Thinking it this way is a lot easier for me! Great lesson!

  18. qbb01 says:

Hey again! I really took into account of hitting through the ball, and i went to the driving range today and hit every ball in between the 230-260 consistently with a small fade or draw. It seems now i hit though the ball and if i pull the drive it doesnt have a low hook and if i leave the wrists cocked too long it still goes high with a small fade. THANKS SHAWN

  19. BKizzle77 says:

hey i have a question about my swing and i think it has to do with what you address here. about half the time that i hit my irons i hit them inconsistently and usually catch them off the heel and they go shooting off to the right. what i picture in my head is that my lag is actually lasting too long and i dont whip the clubface back into position and keep it out there causing me to get it off the heel i hope you can picture what i am saying. any tips on my mindset on how to correctly get through

  20. rsetjodi says:

THANKS a lot Shawn for your excellent video! It got rid of my fat shots completely and I can enjoy golf more now. I learned that the more you focus on the ball the more you will tend to ‘hit’ it instead of swinging through it. I think this lesson should be promoted more considering that there are not that many golf tips that teach you how to focus on the ball at address. Keep up the good work!!!

  21. clemshaw says:

Yes; have you seen the “you tube analogies page” on my website? The first subject is the Bilateral golf swing” and is designed to fine tune the timing in the swing; see all the videos associated to this video and this page!

  22. clemshaw says:

    See the “you tube Analogies” page on my website and check out the first subject and the videos associated with it;
    Shawn

  23. qbb01 says:

i guess this works quite well but the thing is getting the timing right. I sometimes really try hard to do this but release a fraction early producing a huge low hook because my hands have rolled over. I guess it just takes practice ey shawn.

  24. KxWaYnE says:

Shawn: I’ve improved my swing a lot in my opinion. However, after seeing my swing on video ( I still hook the ball A LOT) I notice my arms are collapsing to my body. Any advice or videos to watch?

  25. clemshaw says:

    Yeah Man!!
    Great comment verbalized!
