Your analogy comparing the takeaway with pulling and pushing the kid on the swing is so completely accurate and understandable. Thank you for all of your videos, they’ve helped so many of us. Must be nice to know that so many golfers are thinking about your methods when they practice/play.

I would continue on this path yes; then continue to make it more and more seamless untill it looks like mine; you will still see a hint of it in my swings…very important to feel the abandon to centrifugal force in the backswing; Shawn

Fun realisation no? Other videos to help with this are the “Golf pro lesson swing sequence”, “Golf pro lesson sequence power drills”, Golf pro lesson downswing weightshift” and “Golf pro lesson 2008 golf swing review part 2″; Shawn

Have a look at my “Golf pro lesson timing and tempo update” and “golf pro lesson perpetual motion drill” for starters; a great drill on top of this would be the “Golf pro lesson medicine ball drill” Shawn

Shawn — this tip probably changed my game the most, especially with the driver. My problem used to be bringing the club too far behind me (and on a flat plane), and the idea of moving the handle first keeps the club in front of my body.

I know you mention it in the video, but is it really OK to swing with the hands all loose and the arms quiet, similar to the hickory-club style? I look at my takeaway and the club handle is pointed at my right thigh before the clubhead has even moved.

Great info Mr. Clement…I worked on this and it was and improvement as far as striking the ball, I understand the reason for the squat is to shallow out the swing plane. In doing the squat right, I felt my inner thigh outer thigh abductor muscles as I moved into my left side. In making this move I’ll be more consistent. I realized in failing to make a consistent squat I was hitting inconsistently.

    WITH THE SQUAT.

sorry it made me laugh so i had to point it out. :P

    great video.

What you need to do is perfect the “One Leg Swing no weightshift” to feel the unwinding in the downswing around a solid brace against the left side; then see “golf pro lesson don’t keep your head down” part 1 and 2 to make sure your head is not staying down too long; complete the package with “golf pro lesson downswing weightshift” tyhanks for the comment! Shawn

  11. clemshaw says:

Because of what golf instruction has become, I get this question a lot; here is the answer: There is one plane for each club; then there is the plane you use for that particular shot with that club (Ball below feet, above feet etc); so how are you going to find that particular plane? See “golf pro lesson swing plane” for the answer; you will also enjoy “golf pro lesson arms falling down plane”; Thanks for the question! Shawn

Hi Shawn, I taped my swing to have a look at, and as i suspected, if yours is right then mine is miles off!! Mainly, in your swing, as the weight moves forward onto the front leg and through the shot you become very tall in your action, while i tend to just continue forward. Is there a way to easily break down this part of the transition in a little more detail please?

  13. dbatlarge says:

I was wondering Shawn , if you are a person being on the large body size.Should you be using a upright or flat swing?

  14. clemshaw says:

    Hey Danic;
Thanks for the question; I get this question a lot and the answer is none of the above; have a look at “golf pro lesson golf swing medicine” and “golf pro lesson momentum toss” part 1 and 2; then see “golf pro lesson arms falling down plane” and “golf pro lesson perpetual motion drill”; you will understand after this! :) Shawn

  15. danic18 says:

Shawn, do you think the downswing must be leaded by the left arm as I have heard? This idea is really tough to me, however, when i did it with my right arm I tend to come over the top and cut the ball

  16. clemshaw says:

    Hey danic; thanks for the comment and question; what is happening is that you are still concerned too much about impact and it’s relation to direction; see the “Golf Pro lesson weak grip or strong grip?” video and you will see what I mean;
I bet that if you were to see the “Golf pro lesson through the ball video and do the fishing analogy properly and film that, you would have all the lag you need; the key is to swing to the target and KNOW the ball is in the way…Shawn

  17. danic18 says:

Shawn, i have improved a lot my transition by changing the weight to the left leg and then turning as fast as I can to the finish position, but I still release the hands too early in the downswing. How could I fix it?

  18. clemshaw says:

I thank you for that vote of confidence!
    Shawn

  19. clemshaw says:

Thanks for the great comment! I wish you continued success and yes, David Lee has some very good nuggets in his teachings; Shawn

  20. clemshaw says:

I would start with the “feet together drill” video and the “one leg swing no weight shift” video; then check your arm motion with the “all about the arms” section on the you tube shawn page of my website; Shawn

this may be out of the topic, but i think u r much better than tht leadbetter guy!!!

  22. rahickey002 says:

Yes , that was “Gravity Golf” with David Lee. he too had the “one leg”,”feet together”,”Step and swing” and a couple other drills for his system. The focus being balance and not overswinging.

  23. bmark6969 says:

Shawn, I learned to golf using the “gravity swing”. You are the first instructor in 20 years who I feel I can trust to keep my swing on the right path. Your videos are excellent, and you explain things so well. I love my swing and have been looking for someone to help refresh my memory on the simple physics which make the full swing feel effortless – thanks agian :)

  24. jwsmith000 says:

Hi Shawn, Can you tell me the best videos for people who are hitting down behind the ball or fat?

  25. clemshaw says:

    Thanks Mike!
