    In the last video shawn said something that clicked with me, and something I think about in similar terms.He said that Pauls “momentum’ in the D.S reflected the great analogy of propelling the kid on a swing but Paul has his hand constantly guiding the swing, whereas if we ACCELERATE through the ball, rather than keep a constant speed the club can do nothing but act as we are forcing it to, i.e a whip through the ball. ACCELERATION and TEMPO are key to whipping the club, and its a great feeling

    2 videos: “golf pro lesson weak or strong grip?” and Golf pro lesson tilted spiral part 1, 2 and especially 3;
    You just need to be more braced against the left side but without giving your position away of being behind the ball; see “golf pro lesson braced tilt part 2″ as well;

    I am a right hand dominant, left handed golfer. I have tried to use the frisbee throwing technique, but when contact the ball with the club, I feel that I am lifting the ball instead of compressing. I have tried to move the ball back in my stance, but that mostly causes me to push the ball weak and left. I like your videos, thought maybe you could help me. Thanks.

    Good Question; see “golf Pro lesson Grip Awareness” for this one;

    does your grip pressure need to be like it would when you are popping a bull whip?

    I just have to say watching your videos here in Indy has given me such a great start to perfecting my game. I appreciate your vids…very visual and educational! Watching a lot of videos, you have broken the nuts and bolts down and I have to say that you are the best teacher that I have seen! Thanks!

    Shawn, really liked the visual swing images you provide in this vid. I think golfers these days really underestimate the effectiveness of the “Snead Squat” that you emphasize i order to transfer weight leading to the downswing lag and adding the early backswing lag adds another element of rhythm and timing to the important move.

    I have just come out with a great video on this and it is called “Golf Swing Medicine”; also have a look at the “takeaway and Starting the swing” as well as the “Momentum Toss” part 1 and 2; all of them are on the “You Tube Shawn” page of my website listed at the top right…Thanks for the question! Shawn

    Hey Shawn –
    Great vid as usual, and Paul has some nice things going on in that swing. One thing that I expected you to mention was his very handsy takeway. I tend to do the same, and it wrecks my width and keeps me from really “swinging” the clubhead back. How important is it to start with your hands in front of the ball, and if you do, how do you get the “Bobby Jonesesque” feeling of really swinging that clubhead back?

    Thanks!

    Shawn,

    Thank you for this explanation of the “Whipping” motion of the golf swing. This has made my mechanics really click. You are the greatest golf instructor of all time. I have never met an instructor with the personality and positive reinforcement that you project. I’ve enjoyed all of your YouTube instructional videos and I will be purchasing your DVD soon. I’m also glad that you’ve saved me from years of bad swing habits! Keep it up buddy and thanks again!

    When the tilt in the swing is properly braced into the left side BEFORE THE ARMS COME DOWN, and you are using inertia to track the arms and club, then you will feel everything releasing naturally towards the target and feel VERY accurate; what you are feeling sounds to me like something is not clearing properly because it is not braced properly;
    Watch “Braced Tilt Part 2″, “swing sequence” and “sequence power drills” Shawn… Plus I have more coming…:)

    Shawn a question. When I do this I feel like I have no control of where the ball is going since I take my hands out of the “hit” of the ball. Does it just take practice to make sure the ball is heading in the right direction? I guess I have been guiding my arms and not tossing

  18. clemshaw says:

    Thanks Man!

  19. kmh196700 says:

    I have been watching Shawn for close to a year, and of all the videos and golfchannel experts, I believe he is the better teacher. Shawn, thank you for what you do.

    Hi Shortgames! Thanks for the comment! What I recommend you do is check out the following vids from the “You Tube Shawn” page of my website at shawnclementgolf dot com:”Hogan Power Move”, “X-out the X-Factor”, “Stacked and Complete”, “Fine Tuning the Best Drill” and “Weight Shift” and you will understand. Shawn

  21. shortgames says:

    When practicing a lagging clubhead takeway why not start with mid-body hands?

  22. clemshaw says:

    This is why we call them analogies…:)
    They are meant to conjure up mental images that will help your central nervous system make a neuro-muscular connection to get to that all important “feel”; Why would it do damage? You get to the same hinge as you would normally; unless you snatch the club back so hard it makes your head spin…which I think is not likely; just keep things smooth and be aware of how inertia takes the club head during the swing; Shawn

  23. huronmountain says:

    Shawn, this is a fantastic lesson. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with everyone. I just love your teaching style and the information you give about the golf swing. I think this method is a great way to swing the club.

  24. itubeutude says:

    Yes it is pretty cool. Problem is it’s hard to whip a steel shaft. Unlike a real whip, you know that the flex will naturally generate the speed.

    One question. Can you do damage to your wrists by doing that drill?

  25. clemshaw says:

    Hi Philip;

    Go to my website listed above and check out the following videos on the “You Tube Shawn” Page: “Proper spine Tilt”, “Braced Tilt”, “Fine Tuning the Best Drill”, “One Leg Drill” and get back to me;
    Should feel like a “Down the line top spin forehand”…
    Thanks for the comment, Shawn
