Phil Cheetham “The 3D Guy” demonstrates how the aggressive “firing” of the thorax (upper body) causes the pelvis to decelerate during the golf downswing. This is the primary action that causes the pelvis rotation speed curve to “peel” away from the thorax curve in the kinematic sequence graph. The kinematic sequence is the graph of pelvis, thorax, arm and club turning speed during the golf swing; it displays whether or not a golfer’s swing is efficient. See www.amm3d.com for more information.

3 Responses to Thorax Acceleration Causes Pelvis Deceleration during Downswing of Golf

I call this “The Spinal Whip.” Proximal acceleration and distal deceleration are the key to an efficient golf swing.

  2. philcheetham says:

Yes it is a good thing. It happens in every skilled golf swing. At the beginning of the downswing the hips accelerate first slightly ahead of the thorax (ribcage), the arms and the club. A fraction of a second later the abdominal muscles fire, sling shotting the ribcage around and causing the pelvis to decelerate. This same sequence of accel/decel then happens with the arm and the club, all during the downswing and before impact. This is called the Kinematic Sequence. See amm3d website.

Ok so you showed the demo but perhaps you could elaborate and explain what that means to the gold swing in simple terms? LIke… I’m not even sure if you’re saying thats a god or bad thing…. you just say “it happens”!
