I can’t stop sliding my hips away from the target in my backswing which results in my club be way off plane in my back swing (above my head), starts a reverse pivot and then I need to go over top on downswing which results in shank. I have tried numerous tips to turn instead of slide and I just can’t stop the slide. Does anybody have one swing thought that helps eliminate hip slide on the back swing?

You can also imagine yourself standing in a barrel. As you start your backswing, swing around your spine by rotating your shoulders and bending your front knee towards the ball. By bending your front knee towards the ball (just a slight bend), you open your hips and allow them to rotate rather slide.
A good swing thought is “stay in the barrel”.

I had a similar issue–the real problem is that your weight is transferring outside your back leg, or as I like to think:
“You are breaking your wall”. Think of your back leg as a anchor for your golf swing. Your lower body should be quiet during your swing.
While thinking “don’t break my wall” I also think, “turn (my right) your left shoulder under chin” and these two thoughts have helped me drastically. From a 25 to 16 handicap.

Assuming you are right handed, how is your right foot positioned? Do you have it flared out? I have a feeling you have your right foot flared out toward the right. Generally, the right foot should be straight forward.
As others have stated, proper posture as well is crucial. Knees should be flexed; you should not be able to see your chins. If you have your right foot straight, instead of flared to the right, when you perform your backswing, you’ll then feel resistance in the hips and they’ll coil around, along with your shoulder turn.
If your right foot flares out, I believe this may promote more of a tilt or slide, instead of the hips coiling up and turning.
But then again, I’m not a pro. These are just thoughts coming from how it would feel to me based on the positioning of my right foot.

Pretend there is a brick wall that extends up to your right hip (assuming you are right handed). You can’t slide your hips through a wall.
    Drill:
Get a friend to stand behind you with a long broom handle or something similar. Have them hold the broom handle just outside your right hip from behind you (make sure it is long enough so they cant get hit by your club in the backswing or follow through). The object is for you to swing without bumping into that stick.

might be a posture problem.. try straightening your back, stick your bum out, and just try to turn your shoulders, instead to sliding to the right on your backswing.. this problem sometimes creeps in my backswing as well.. i just try to remember to turn using my core instead of sliding to the right.. hope this helps..
