thigh muscle work like lunges and jumping
Focus on your spine angle ,keep it consistent all the way through your swing (dont be too rigid though) Or try to hit some balls at the range with your legs together, this will quiet your leg action and train your muscles
My father did this for years and I put it onvideo for him. He did a visualization imagining that he had frozen knees that couldn’t move at all from the beginning of the swing. He also added hip action, which I think was more the trick. He did end up adding some 20-40 yards on his driver and proportional distance to other clubs.
I think the hip movement and a complete leg drive would work better for you. Remember, it won’t be fixed overnight.
There is one drill that is extremely effective for correcting this problem.
Hit balls with your feet together. If you can balance you can do it on one foot as well. Just use a mid iron (7,6,5) and put the ball in the middle of your stance. Be patient, as it may take a few swings to start even making contact.
As another note just on the role of the legs, keep in mind that unless you are a low handicapper/pro the legs should be used as a stable base for your swing. They should remain relatively quiet and allow your torso and arms to swing the club. Trying to move the legs/hips more for power who is not a good player will undoubtedly hurt their swing. Remember, the less moving parts the better. =)
Hope this helps, and good luck!!
This answer will look pitiful next to all the thousand-word answers above me.
Anyway, my knees tend to dip if I swing too hard. Go to a driving range and swing lightly at first. Increase your speed and strength a little with every swing while making sure your knees stay locked.
Good luck.
Improve Golf Swing – Full Swing Knee Bend
I’m going to tell you the role that the knees play during the entire golf swing. The correct posture in golf, in order to improve your golf swing, is that you bend at your hips, over the bones that are on both sides of your hips.
We don’t sit in this sport. We have our knees slightly flexed, and then we bend from the hips.
In the golf swing, the knees never ever get straight in the backswing. They stay flexed the entire way.
The game of golf starts and ends right here. Good players play the sport from inside the right knee as they turn. It doesn’t go out and it doesn’t go straight. But it stays where it was at the beginning of the backswing, so as we start back the knees don’t move.
Now, the downswing: As the arms start to unwind the knees don’t move at all. The centrifugal force, the speed of the golf club swings into the ground.
As the club passes you and your left hip starts to move out of the way, then, and only then, does the right knee start to get straighter in the downswing after impact.
And the entire time, make sure that you don’t lock your left knee in the downswing. Keep it slightly flexed as you swing through. You don’t have to come all the way up and straighten it up.
I think that that might help you improve your golf swing. Think about this tip a couple of times and make sure that this is what you’re thinking of when you swing the golf club, in relation to your knees.
Sometimes I lunge at the ball too. However, I can fix it when im on the course. You can Easily fix it. Lock your right knee (if you’re a right handed player) and complete a full shoulder turn, take the club somewhat inside and get a Full shoulder turn, so your shoulder is just behind the ball (almost even), with a shorter iron like 8. However wth a driver or 3 wood, or even 5 iron, be Sure to get your left shoulder behind the ball. I played in a nine hole match two days ago, Thursday. I realized on the first tee shot I was lungeing at the ball. well, I made an adjustment, and remembered to get a full shoulder turn, and I went on to hit 7 of 9 greens on a course that is particulary long, measuring in at 3,487 yards. The system works, that is the basis of it. Full soulder turn, swing slightly inside-out, and watch the club hit the ball, I’ve been doing the confident swing system since it frst came out 3 years ago, and now I am a 4.5 handicap.. now if I could only putt..
Put your knees in the proper position at the start of your golf swing. You neither lift them or lower them as the swing progresses toward the back or the front. Feel as though you are sitting on a long legged stool . Your body wouldn’t be oscillating up and down, would it ?
