A pitching shot is a longer swing to a chip shot. Also a pitching shot is like a full pitching/ lob wedge/ 9 iron. With a chip ppl normally swing up to a 3/4 swing.
A chip shot is usually done almost exclusively around the green while a pitch shot is done from 100 yards out and also around the green. A chip shot usually uses the surface of the green to get the ball near the hole meaning the ball travels through the air in a shorter time and rolls more. This means, almost always, a shorter swing than the pitch shot. A pitch shot is more of a lob, where the ball is in the air longer. The golf swing for a pitch varies.
To execute a pitch shot, you use more of the normal golf swing and set up. A full swing from a hundred yards and varying length as you get closer – and opening your stance just slightly the closer you get to the green. A chip shot becomes more like a putting stroke with a wedge or other club depending on any obstacles in your way and lengh of shot to the hole and is usually within 5 to 10 yards of the green. Stand closer to the ball with the shaft pointing more upright than the normal golf stance. Feet close together and weight on your left side. A short, putting like stroke is used, keeping your hands ahead of the shaft throughout the swing.
