Great survival tool,
I bought my explorer in 1972. Since then, it has:
Fixed scores of electronics
Cut virtually anything that needed cutting
Opened myriad bottles of wine and beer
Opened far too many C-rations
Screwed and unscrewed thousands of mechanical and wood screws
And even started fires
It is possibly the best purchase I have ever made

|Dynamic Duo!,
The Victorinox Swiss Army Explorer is a handy dandy combination of tools.
It is just enough for most needs without being cumbersome.
I own the awesome Victorinox SwissTool RS and prefer that for my use.
However, it is bigger and not for those who need a more scaled down knife.
Based on size, I purchased two of the Swiss Army Explorers to give as Christmas gifts.
It comes with a key ring and, although smaller, it has plenty to work with.
It has 16 tools: 1. Large Knife Blade, 2. Small Knife Blade, 3. Can Opener, 4. Bottle Opener
5. Small Screwdriver, 6. Large Screwdriver, 7. Phillips Screwdriver, 8. Wire Stripper, 9. Reamer, 10. Punch,
11. Magnifying Glass, 12. Tweezers, 13. Corkscrew, 14. Scissors, 15. Hook, and 16. Toothpick.
The Explorer was the right choice for the ones receiving them and getting the free pouch makes it even better.
The combination offered by Amazon makes for a good purchase at a reasonable price. ~ The Boss
UPDATE: December 26, 2006
The Victorinox Swiss Army Explorer Sets were much appreciated as Christmas gifts by our son and son-in-law.

|Knife you get is not the one shown in the image on the amazon page,
The knife shown in the image is not the one that you will get if you order this item. Victorinox has made what they call a “running change”. They have replaced the 8x magnifying lens surrounded with gray plastic by a 5x lens surrounded by clear plastic. Not only is this new lens flimsier and more likely to break off, but also it will be harder to start a fire with it in an emergency survival situation. Definitely this change is a change for the worse. I don’t why Victorinox made this change except to save a few bucks in manufacturing the knife? Luckily, I called Victorinox customer support and they are aware of this problem and said that they will gladly switch out the clear plastic-surrounded lens with a gray-plastic surrounded lens if I send the knife to their Repairs department.
