This is by far the best putting mat I’ve seen out there. Sturdy, solid felt mat and putting guides make this a great buy.

Nice feel, but the design means you are always putting uphill, May 8, 2011

First, note that this automatic return is gravity fed. On the plus side, that means nothing to plug in, no batteries to tend to. On the downside, you need a flat surface, and you can’t play around with different slopes. This limits usability. The slope required for the “automatic return” means that you’re not trying for that flat 3′ putt, but a 3′ upward sloping put. The former is what I’d like to practice, not the latter (still, this only dings it to 3 stars, not 2 because most mats are designed this way). To have a mat that “trains” you for 3/5/7 foot putts when they’re actually upward sloping will set you up for the wrong feel for putts of that length.

+ gravity feed requires no power source
+ felt is the best in any mat I’ve tried
    - requires a flat surface which means you can’t construct sloped situations
    - gravity feed “slope” makes putts feel artificial
