Well, he’s one of the most successful golfers of all time, promoting the game of golf among those of different races because of his multiracial ethnicity.
I wouldn’t say that the world is as obsessed with Tiger Woods compared to other public figures but all the recent news about his recent car crash has been blown completely out of proportion and given far more news coverage than necessary. It’s like it’s the major story of the week. When the news first got out, Woods was reported to have “serious injuries” and even facial lacerations. Then as the news continued to get out, it became clear that things were being hyped up. The Tiger Woods car accident did hospitalize him, but his injuries don’t appear to be as serious as first thought.
The 24 hour news outlets forgot there was other news going on, of course. Even CBS interrupted their football coverage to deliver what updates they could. But in the end, Woods was reportedly checked out in good health, although reports that he suffered facial lacerations seem to be true.
Since this is Tiger Woods, and since this is the year of celebrity deaths, it was easy to fear for the worst when the news broke. But the amount of hysteria over it was disproportionate to what actually happened.
